HISTORY

1989

Maria Barallobre and her husband, Antonio Simon, opened a small restaurant on the outskirts of Betanzos.

1992

Their success came so suddenly that, only three years later, they opened another La Penela restaurant in the Plaza de María Pita in A Coruña. When this establishment opened, their two younger sons, Javier and Miguel joined the family business.

1995

The first La Penela tavern, a less formal kind of restaurant, was opened.

1999 - 2001

By the turn of the century a new business project involving the organization of major events in unique environments and excellent service a la carte was underway. To achieve that goal, Pazo de Cela, located in Cambre, and Pazo de Villar de Francos, near Carballo, were acquired. Through this project, the firm contributes to restoring and promoting a very important part of the architectural heritage of Galicia.

2006

This year the firm took a significant geographic step and opened the first La Penela restaurant in Madrid.

2009

The company then approached the world of wine, closely linked to the restaurant business, by purchasing the Pazo de Ximonde. Its vineyards and ancient winery, are located near Santiago de Compostela in the geographical area of the Denomination of Origin Rias Baixas.

Our Company

Our Principles

Our company's philosophy is simple: to offer in a pleasant environment traditional Galician cuisine, always using the best ingredients. These principles have worked so well over the years that they remain our cornerstones.

FAMILY CHARACTER

The family nature of the company is present in all our relationships and in our customer relations, so it is very common to see family members personally serving customers in our dining rooms.

THE SATISFACTION OF A JOB WELL DONE

The healthy obsession with a job well done is what led us to centralize our distribution facilities. On arrival goods are subjected to strict quality controls before being distributed to our establishments.

ALWAYS GALICIA'S BEST

Our link with Galicia is demonstrated every day in our continuous efforts to achieve and promote the best ingredients. Proof of this is the daily purchase of the best seafood in the market of A Coruña, our own farms where we grow potatoes and other vegetables, and our recently planted vineyards and our winery for producing top quality Albariño wines.
